GO! St. Louis
I'll get back to the post-catching-up process later . . . right now I really want to tell you about what I did today.
I finished my first half-marathon!!!! I ran in the GO! St. Louis Half Marathon this morning. The course took us past the Arch, Soldier's Memorial, Busch Stadium, the Anheuser-Busch Brewery (which I only recognized because it smelled like beer!), and Forest Park. My official time was 2:07:14, which placed me #3259 of 8492 runners overall, and #222 of 800 women age 30-34. My pace was about 9:42 per mile over the 13.1 miles, which was a little bit faster than I expected to run. Not too shabby, if you ask me!
A drizzly rain fell throughout the race, but with temps around 60, it wasn't too bad. What is it with rain and St. Louis races anyway?? I ended up running by myself (well, not really because there were 10,000+ people there), because I lost track of the people I came with before we even got started! Me and my Mizzou and fellow runner friend Kara. She only finished 3-4 minutes ahead of me, but we never saw each other during the race! We finally caught up with each other after the race.
Russ, Dane and Ava came along to cheer me on. We were all soaked to the skin!

A Combo Birthday Party
Grandma Linda (Oelrichs) graciously hosted a party at her house in Cole Camp to celebrate Ava's fourth and Dane's second birthdays back in February. Here's how the fun unfolded . . .

It's way too nice out today to leave those snowy pictures at the top of the blog. On with the updates -- we'll catch up eventually!
I guess I didn't grease the pans enough, so the cakes stuck. One layer I scraped onto a plate and globbed icing on top, the other I just iced in the pan, then scattered sprinkles over both. They weren't pretty, but they tasted good, so that's what counts! This is the cake recipe I used, if you're interested.
Dane's actual birthday was January 17th. We celebrated about a month late (imagine that!), mostly so Daddy could be here for the event. I tried making him a homemade chocolate layer cake. The cake part was awesome, the layer part . . . not so much.

Snow Day!
We had a big snow at the end of January that caused all the area schools, including Ava's preschool, to cancel classes. We took advantage of the day off and played outside!

January was Pet Month for Ava's preschool class. Each child was encouraged to bring their pet for show and tell. Ava (with a little help from Mommy) brought Sammy to school. He was very well behaved and tolerated all the little hands much better than I expected.

Christmas 2008 (Just a Little Late)
I am fully aware that tomorrow is Easter, and I am just now getting around to posting Christmas photos. I am obviously a terrible procrastinator!
Christmas Eve
Ava sang with the other Sunday School kids at our church on Christmas Eve. These photos and video are from the dress rehearsal we had the Sunday before:

Christmas Day
We opened gifts at our house on Christmas morning. We also had celebrations with the Scheer family in New Haven and the Oelrichs family in Cole Camp, but I failed to get pictures at those events. Here's our Christmas morning at home:
Ava's Christmas was all about princesses. Grandma and PaPa gave her a Snow White gown, complete with crown and shoes. This little princess didn't feel like posing for pictures!

Ava got the dollhouse she so desperately wanted -- it was the only thing she asked for!
Dane's Christmas wasn't White or Blue -- it was John Deere Green!
He also got toy cars and the movie Cars, which turned out to be the feature presentation at our house every day for about two months!
